Don’t Take “IT” for Granted…Take Action Now!

I’ll do “IT” tomorrow…some day…when I get around to “IT”…when I have more time…really?

You’ve probably heard it before, but when an idea or dream hits you, you need to take action – inspired action. Sitting around thinking about “IT” or wishing for “IT” won’t make “IT” happen. “IT” is the idea or dream. “IT” is the inspiration and the action is up to you.

A few years ago, I had a sweet old Cocker Spaniel named Rusty. He suffered from an enlarged heart and became unable to get up and down the stairs of my second floor condo. To make life easier for him, my boyfriend made a potty place from him on my balcony. He took a huge plastic tray and put a piece of sod in it so Rusty would still have a grass patch to use. My boyfriend knew he had come up with a super idea… but we did nothing with it. Now you see his idea in many of the Pet Supply Catalogs. And to really drive the point home, it was the first thing I saw on display at the doorway of Walgreen’s this past week!

Remember the phrase, “Use it or Lose It”? I believe our “IT” is a lot like that. I think of our “IT” like Jack – our little Pomeranian that thinks it is every being’s duty to love him. If Jack wants your attention, he will get it. He will grumble to you, bring you a toy or just jump in your lap. Should you continue to ignore him or tire of him, he will go on to the next person, pet or toy. “IT” is like that. If you ignore “IT” – “IT” will go away. Like Jack, “IT” may come back around to give you another chance, but “IT” is capricious. You don’t know if and when “IT” might come back to you, but you can be sure “IT” will leave again if you don’t pay attention to “IT”.

I think of all the days of sun and warmth I squandered in South Florida. I took for granted that I would have time tomorrow or next week to take time to sit in the sun or go to the beach. I also had the audacity to wish for cooler weather.

Watch what you ask for…you might just get “IT”.

Now I am in Indianapolis for very important reasons – and “IT” is much cooler. I find myself racing outdoors to sit in the sun to work on the rare occasions the sun comes out. I have to laugh. In South Florida, we freeze and throw on coats when the temp drops below 70 degrees. Here in Indy, I’m in a tank and shorts when the mercury struggles up toward 60. You can bet I have found a new appreciation of the sun’s healthful vitamin D and fat frying capabilities – literally.

The point is – don’t wait to take action on “IT”. You have something inside you that is bursting to get out and become that new business idea – that book you want to write or that project you’ve wanted to do. Do what NIKE says – Just Do “IT”!
